Dear Visitor,
I have been touched by cancer many times during
my life, beginning with the loss of my best friend’s
cousin to leukemia when we were just too young to know what
was happening. My Grandmother, Ruth, was a breast cancer
survivor,
as is my Aunt, Liz. David, college roommate and best friend
of my brother, survived Hodgkin’s Lymphoma over very
daunting odds. More recently, friends Cathy, Anne and Louise
have all begun their own courageous fights against breast
cancer. When forced to think about it for a few minutes, we
all know too many people who have been affected by cancer.
Help me help the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute
make cancer history.
When they write the history book of
how cancer was conquered, Dana-Farber and the Pan-Mass Challenge
will be in the first chapter.
The Pan-Massachusetts Challenge
is the nation’s original fundraising bike-a-thon and
today raises more money than any other athletic fundraising
event in the country. It is also the most cost efficient.
With 99 cents of each dollar
raised going
directly to the Jimmy Fund, the PMC has contributed
more than $145 million to lifesaving cancer
research and treatment at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute since
its 1980 inception. On August 5 and 6, 2006, nearly 4,000
cyclists will travel 192 miles over two days,
through 46 scenic Massachusetts towns.
I have joined up with my friend David Butler
of Nantucket to form a team which will be among the 4000 riders
participating in the Sturbridge to P
rovincetown ride. We have
committed to raise a significant sum for Dana-Farber, and
my personal goal is to raise more than $10,000.
To achieve this goal of ten grand in 192 miles, I will ride
more than 2000 miles in training. So when you think about
it, the financial assistance I request from you in reaching
my goal is quite small compared to the thousands of miles
I’ll ride in order to get your help.
David & I will be working with our team
members to create
a team jersey, and we are considering putting
the names of all those whom we know that have been affected
by cancer on the shirts as a moving tribute to our efforts.
If you or someone you know should be on our shirt, please
drop a
line and let us know their name so we can include them
in our design.
Please, won’t you join me in helping to
put an end to cancer and to help those who are in need of
treatment? Please use the link below to make a donation at
